Fields of Law

In order to maximize their ability to serve you, the attorneys of Mertes and Mertes, P.C. concentrate in several areas of law.

Our Areas of Concentration

Personal Injury/Automobile Accidents

The attorneys of Mertes & Mertes, P.C. have extensive experience in handling automobile accident and other personal injury claims.

Motor vehicle accidents can cause injury far beyond the physical injury.  They inflict losses from property damage.  They cause pain.  They cause loss of income.  Sometimes, tragically, they cause death.  The attorneys of Mertes & Mertes, P.C. have handled hundreds of automobile accident cases on behalf of the injured.  We pride ourselves on devoting great time, energy and resources to the thorough investigation of automobile accidents, and to the pursuit of the negligent drivers who cause them.  It is important to take prompt action when you have been in a motor vehicle accident. Illinois law provides statutes of limitations for automobile accident claims.  If a cause of action is not filed prior to the expiration of the statute of limitations, then it is forever barred.  Time is therefore of the offense.  If you have been injured in an accident, immediately contact an attorney for help.  At Mertes & Mertes, P.C., there is no charge for the initial consultation in an automobile accident case.  We handle these cases on a contingent fee basis.

Medical Malpractice

Medical malpractice occurs when the negligence of a doctor or other medical professional results in injury to a patient.  Many patients do nothing about medical negligence because they fear that it may be too difficult to sue a doctor or hospital.  At Mertes & Mertes, P.C., we associate with outstanding medical experts who join with us to carefully review and investigate claims of medical negligence.  Whether it is a delay in diagnosis, a misdiagnosis, or a botched medical procedure, at Mertes & Mertes, P.C., we have the experience to fully and carefully investigate the case.  Where appropriate and well grounded by the evidence, we pursue the doctors who cause harm to our clients.

Workers Compensation

Under Illinois law, when employees suffer injuries arising out of and during the course of employment, they may make a workers compensation claim against their employer.  Their employer may not retaliate against them for making such a claim.  Injured workers may be entitled to have their employer pay their medical bills, temporary total disability payments, partial permanent disability payments, or other damages and remedies to which injured workers in the State of Illinois are entitled.

Criminal/DUI/Traffic

The stakes of a criminal case are always high.  A criminal conviction can have a life-long impact.  Whether the case involves loss of freedom or loss of a driver’s license, whether the case is being prosecuted at the federal or state level, Mertes & Mertes, P.C. can offer experienced legal representation devoted to ensuring justice throughout the criminal process.
