Amanda Smith is no stranger to pressure. A veteran fast-pitch softball pitcher, Amanda has thrown heat that has pulled her team out of many jams. Named “Most Valuable Player” for her athletic prowess on the pitcher’s mound, Amanda developed a keen understanding of the importance of teamwork.
So it is no surprise that as a legal assistant on a team of veteran attorneys and paralegals, Amanda has excelled. “I know it sounds somewhat strange,” Amanda said, “but being a part of the legal team at Mertes & Mertes has many similarities to being part of a successful softball team.” “We work very closely together for a common cause,” she explained. “If one of us doesn’t do a great job, the rest of the team will suffer,” she added.
Amanda began as a part-time file clerk with the firm, but quickly rose to the position of full-time legal assistant. She assists in the preparation of medical summaries and deposition summaries, while keeping the office’s electronic filing system continuously up-to-date.
“I just love this job and this law firm,” Amanda said. “Every day brings a new and exciting challenge, and we all work extremely well together as a team,” she added.
Amanda is a graduate of Morrison Community High School, and she is currently enrolled as a student at Sauk Valley Community College.
